The Advantest R3272 spectrum analyzer is a wide band, verysensitive receiver. It works on the principle of "super-heterodynereceiver" to convert higher frequencies （normally ranging up toseveral 10s of GHz） to measurable quantities. The receivedfrequency spectrum is slowly swept through a range of pre-selectedfrequencies, converting the selected frequency to a measurable DClevel （usually logarithmic scale）.


Up to four "dialog-box" type measurement windows can be displayedsimultaneously. This allows multiple signals and measurementparameters to be viewed at the same time. For example, the R3272can display a transmitter signal in one window, while adjacentchannel characteristics are monitored in two other windows. Thiscapability gives the user more measurement information and presentsit in a highly meaningful way. The instrument also features 10active markers which simplify evaluation of all signalcharacteristics. Measurements of adjacent channel power, occupiedbandwidth and harmonic levels can be performed at the touch of abutton, without the need for manual calculation.

R3272 Utilizes Direct Digital Synthesis

The R3272 is the first spectrum analyzer in itsprice/performance range to utilize Direct Digital Synthesis （DDS）,which ensures the highest level of spectrum accuracy throughout themeasurement range. DDS also saves time by reducing the need to usea frequency counter for accurate measurements. The instrument's 100dB display dynamic range and 300 Hz to 5 MHz resolution allow eventhe most complex signals to be evaluated.
