A New Test Tool For Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography （SPECT） and Coincidence Detection Systems The Phantom Laboratory and physicists, David Goodenough, Ph.D. and Steve Dyer, M.H.S., have worked together to develop the Specphan™ Phantom. The new Specphan™ design reliably performs routine quality assurance tests, as well as, extensive acceptance tests of single photon emission computed tomography （SPECT） and coincidence detection systems. New features and precise components extend testing capability and save time. The Specphan™'s time-saving cantilever case mount extends the phantom beyond the table edge, allowing small radius rotations previously restricted by the patient table. New test components include the externally-filled, low contrast chambers, and slice thickness test ramps. The chambers enable three levels of hot and/or cold contrasts to be evaluated in three diameters. Test ramps are used to measure slice thickness and slice position. These measurements are critical for volume and fusion imaging applications. These tests can be performed either manually or automatically through automated software available from the Institute for Radiological Image Sciences （IRIS）.
